The people of Iceland anxiously await news of the Fagradalsfjall Volcano’s potential eruption, putting the town of Grindavik, with its evacuated 4,000 residents, on edge. Simultaneously, NYRST’s upcoming album “Völd” mirrors this real-life tension, drawing inspiration from Iceland’s perpetual volcanic threat. The title itself, meaning “force, power, or might,” encapsulates the impending violence, echoed in the dark melodies and intense vocals of NYRST’s lineup, featuring Snæbjörn on vocals, Eysteinn and Davíð on guitars, Egill on bass, and Sveinbjörn on drums.
As the album’s release date approaches, Dark Essence Records releases a second track, “Hrímvíti” intensifying the album’s brooding menace and reflecting the power of Iceland’s unpredictable volcanoes. Set for release on the 8th December, “Völd” will be available in CD, Digital and Lava Smash Vinyl formats as well as on Cassette.
NYRST, showcasing a remarkable musical ability early in their career, refuses to rest on past laurels, fully committed to expanding and evolving their cold, eerie and barren soundscapes, as demonstrated in their debut full-length “Orsök” in 2020 and continuing with the forthcoming “Völd”.
The band explains: “This release marks a big milestone in our career as a band. We’ve developed a lot as musicians since the release of ‘Orsök’ and we took a very different approach to writing and composition. Our intention was to bring all the best elements of our previous work and implement new ideas along with a different theme, which in turn resulted in a much heavier, grim but melodic album.”
