“Don’t Close Your Eyes” is the debut album of the Italians. The band was only formed five years ago. Despite their young age they managed to achieve some very good collaborations here and there, and as they mention in the press letter, they played various concerts, along with good European bands, like RHAPSODY OF FIRE, DGM, VENOM INC. and ANCIENT.
“Don’t Close Your Eyes” includes 8 tracks, a duration of a total of nearly half an hour, with the music style being developed between melodic Death Metal and Metalcore. This is an interesting combination, with main references to the Swedish scene and bands such as IN FLAMES and AT THE GATES, with the crossover elements referring to AS I LAY DYING and HEAVEN SHALL BURN. JUMPSCARE seem quite solid, technical, and they balance very well between groovy elements and melody. In regards to the melodic elements, what is worth mentioning is the careful and essential use of keyboards, as well as some orchestral parts here and there, which make the final result even more interesting and diverse.
Listening again and again to “Don’t Close Your Eyes”, I could highlight “Dead Bodies”, “Earth Decay” and “Paralyzed”, these are very good samples that represent well enough the sound of JUMPSCARE. Lyrically now, the band is moving in a social and in some cases in an environmental pattern. It certainly fits them, since their style is suitable for this kind of approach. A big plus, and definitely a prerequisite for the genre they play, is the compact sound and the great sound production. What I would notice that needs some improvement is the artwork of the album. Because I happen to have the physical product in my hands, I believe – although the artwork is not bad – that the graphics result may be unfair to them and their effort. It could definitely be much more inspiring and of better quality.
In conclusion, JUMPSCARE begins with a very good album that is raising the bar high. They have nice energy, they are good players and they have the potential to achieve many good things in the future. A highly recommended album for the fans of melodic Death Metal and Metalcore. Check it out…
