Nowadays, in what we call “Metal music”, many branches have been born and created. So many that I’m not sure if anyone can say how many they are. Even if it has been the subject of humorous commentary between us, it is necessary to “label-ize” the music, since someone would like to know what music is going to hear or purchase.
So, experimenting and marrying different branches, through the Metal fixture itself (but many times outside of it), has given us many different subgenres, one of which is the Black/Trap Metal of which representatives are the former (in their first release) Black Metallers MORA PROKAZA, having also some Avant-garde extensions.
And while experimentation is legitimate and essentially the reason for all these many branches, sometimes these experiments and marriages end in failure.
Trap Metal is a Metal hybrid with rap elements. Two species with a completely different starting point, background and culture. The differences are really chaotic and I don’t think they are easily bridged (if they are bridged at all). The “lyrics” in a rap song usually mix drugs, weapons, women, clearing accounts between warring gangs and a more generally similar theme, usually using vulgar language to overemphasize the “macho” that overflows from each creator. Something we are not used to in the field of Metal music. Not in this style, at least.
The Belarusians MORA PROKAZA, therefore, tried to overcome the excavations (if there are any in art) through their release “By Chance” creating a Trap Metal album with Black Metal base, hoping that maybe a positive result could come out. But the lyrics from “WIMG” alone, the way they are pronounced and the style of the duet, are enough to show that the project has failed. Too bad because musically and in terms of production it is something that could gain more listeners and interest.
So, if you want to listen to rap lyrics, to show at the other neighborhood who is “in charge of the area”, try listening to “By Chance”. You may like it, by chance! If you do not have such desires, there are only a few hundreds experimental species to deal with…
