Whoever of you doesn’t know ENTOMBED at all, may raise his hand. Those who did, you may pass by the Principal’s office for your punishment. It is inadmissible for a reader of “thegallery.gr” not knowing about ENTOMBED! The rest of you I assume you know that after the conflict between L.G Petrov and his former bandmates, leaded to an outcome of two groups. ENTOMBED and ENTOMBED A.D. We’re leaving apart the cultural/convict reportage, focusing on l.g.Petrov’s band.
ENTOMBED A.D exist since 2014 and “Bowels Of Earth” is their third full length record. As we’re listening to the opening track “Torment Remains”, we are able to figure out what’s going on in this recording. There are equal doses of all ENTOMBED (the old ones) masterpieces. Do you fancy the “Wolverine Blues” groove? You got it. Do you fancy the Death/Thrash moments of “Clandestine”? (I am thrilling with awe and devoutness as I am writing it). There’s plenty of it. Or do you prefer the more melodic moments of “Morning Star” era? There is a Greek expression for this (according to Gus Portokalos, starring in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, all the world languages come from the Greek language). This expression says “The orchard has everything” and is quite accurate. If you mix all these moments with Death ‘N’ Roll spirit and some Hardcore/Punk attitude you get a fine party. Even some out of place looking songs such as “Bourbon Nightmare” and “To Eternal Night” fit perfectly and bring us an essence of the American South revealing PANTERA and DAWN references. This feast would be incomplete without the cover songs. The one we have here is “I’ll Never Get Out Of This World” by countryman HANK WILLIAMS, which was played for the first time back in 1952 and ENTOMBED A.D manage to filter it with their own humorous perspective. The other one is a homage to MOTORHEAD, covering “Back At The Funny Farm” song from 1983 “Another Perfect Day” album. This is also the closing track and the closing moment of this feast.
L.G Petrov remains a charismatic frontman with his wide range of mid low growls and his furious, angry outburst, The newcomer Brazilian guitarist Guilherme Miranda pays homage to the early 90’s Swedish Death Metal scene, while the rhythm section gives a Punk/Hardcore background. The production and the mixing of this album is as muddy as it should be, the intros and samples are perfectly placed and the duration of the songs makes the listener feel full and happy.
“Bowels Of Earth” is a very pleasant, party record and the listener should listen to it with cheerful attitude. In this moment I would like to make a request to both sides. Please settle up your differences, listen to your fans worldwide, put aside your egos and discrepancies and gather together in order to create some magic again. With the recent releases of ENTOMBED and ENTOMBED A.D, you know you still got it.
