I have some fun stuff for you today. Created in 2019 in Sweden, three trolls decided to join their forces and create Folk/Black Metal music. “Why am I referring to trolls?”, you might ask…The reason is simple. In their interviews, those three guys talk like trolls, speak disparagingly about humans (that they just use them), get over with it return to their caves and stuff like that. Of course, they do not forget to mention that their only pleasure is drinking beer. I assume you already got the picture. Let’ s dive into it…
Aside from the troll image, which has made me wonder how they would look up on stage, we have a classic Black Metal album, at least for the most part of it. Fast songs, whatever that means, mostly Norwegian-styled vocal lines and sound (even though they are Swedes, they have obvious influences from Norway), lyrics about hate towards the human race, against Christianity and of course about their kind, the trolls. Unfortunately I don’t have the ability to tell you more about the lyrics, as they are in Swedish and cannot be found anywhere. That’s all about their Black Metal side. Going to the Folk side of the album, we have keys that are adding the necessary atmosphere, we have melodies that bring into mind the Finnish school of Folk/Pagan Metal, and mainly, at these parts, the speed drops a bit. It’s a nice combination I would say. To get a better picture, you can also see the cover of this album. You will then immediately get answers in any question you may have about the band’s goals.
Although it is not the album that will innovate and re-invent the genre, it is something fresh. That album can be listened to without the listener getting tired and it seems that these three dear trolls, had a good time in the creation of their album. Just listen to it yourself and you will have fun too. It is recommended mainly to fans of old EMPEROR due to the keys and the overall atmosphere and of course FINNTROLL’s fans for obvious reasons…
