The devastating power of the wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles has also impacted the family of IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith. His wife, Natalie Dufresne-Smith, announced on Instagram that their home was completely destroyed. The news of Smith’s loss deeply moved thousands of IRON MAIDEN fans worldwide, who expressed their support through comments on social media.

Natalie Dufresne-Smith wrote in her post, accompanied by photos of the smoke engulfing their area:

“We are safe. We have each other. We will start over. Thank you for your support during these difficult times.”

Just days before the destruction, Natalie had shared videos showing her family evacuating their home. In the footage, the preparations for their departure are visible, with Adrian Smith making a final check of their property and visiting an elderly neighbor who refused to leave the area. Thankfully, it was later confirmed that their neighbor managed to evacuate safely.

The wildfires, which began on January 7, 2025, have caused widespread devastation in California. At least 24 people have lost their lives, while nearly 200,000 Los Angeles residents have been forced to leave their homes. Two of the largest fires, in the Eaton and Palisades areas, have already burned more than 38,000 acres of land.

The Smith family is not the only one affected by the flames. PRIMUS guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde also lost his home, as he revealed in a social media post.

Larry “Ler” LaLonde wrote alongside a photo of his destroyed house:

“I feel like I’m being hit with bags of rocks, but the people around me make me feel like the luckiest guy on the planet.”

The wildfires in Los Angeles leave behind a tragic scene, with thousands of families, like Adrian Smith’s, starting over from scratch. Organizations and foundations are joining forces to support the victims. Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD initiative has pledged $2.5 million to aid relief funds. Meanwhile, MusiCares and the Recording Academy launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort with an initial donation of $1 million to support music professionals affected by the crisis, showcasing the power of unity in challenging times.
